Sashiko thread is different from embroidery floss. Floss tends to separate due to the stitches being longer than normal straight stich in embroidery. Sashiko stitches are supposed to represent little rice grains in a decorative pattern on fabric. Sashiko thread is more of a matt-finish than a glossy finish.
